Manhasset Bay Yacht Club, "Your Water Front Home"
Becoming a member usually involves introduction to the Club through a current member, with an application and supporting letters. Membership can begin at any time of the year. Many families aim to be members by Memorial Day when the summer fun begins. Since the membership process may take a few weeks, it is best to think of beginning in mid-March to April to ensure being ready for summer at the Club. Our fees and dues are very competitive compared to other private clubs on Long Island. Actual costs will be provided to prospective members after they have visited the Club and inquired about membership.
If you wish to inquire about Membership, call the Club Office Tuesday - Sunday, 1-516-767-2150.
Manhasset Bay Yacht Club enjoys a prime waterfront location, featuring a classic federal style clubhouse. There are comfortable rooms for social occasions as well as inn rooms for club guests. With a history of more than 100 years as a leader in the yachting world, Manhasset Bay Yacht Club is a unique place for families to relax, meet friends, enjoy sailing, the pool, tennis, and fine dinning in The Grill Room, Bay Room, Lower and Upper Terraces.
The Club offers an extensive array of activities for everyone in the family. There are children's activities including the Spinnaker Program and Junior Sailing and Tennis.
The Spinnaker Program is for children from ages 5 to 8. The program runs Tuesday through Thursday afternoons, for six weeks, and features, sailing, swimming, tennis, arts and crafts. The Junior Sailing Program, for children from ages 9 to 18, incorporates sailing, tennis and participation on the swim team. The swim team competes with teams from neighboring clubs.
For adult members wishing to learn to sail, the Ideal 18 program is available at a modest fee, with instructions available. The program has a fleet of 18' sail boats, which can be sailed single-handed or with a crew of up to four. Members reserve sail time. This is a great way to learn while thinking of purchasing a boat of one's own.
Adult sailing includes the Manhasset Bay One Design Fleet, the Sonar Fleet, as well as the Ideal 18s. Competitive racing occurs each weekend, and regattas and special events are scheduled throughout the late spring and summer and into the fall. Wednesday evenings in the summer includes Women Sailing, and a highlight of the fall is the Manhasset Bay Fall Series, hosted for two weekends in October, when upwards of 120 boats compete on Long Island Sound.
Other activities include the heated pool (extends the swim season to October), tennis ( 5 har-tru courts), and paddle tennis. Featured throughout the year are wine tasting, cooking lessons, or a lecture series where often artists and authors talk about their work. There are parties for children -- such as the children's Halloween Party, Brunch with Santa and the Easter Egg Hunt. Adult members enjoy a number of special evening events, such as Raft Up at the dock, when everyone visits members' boats tied to the dock while having cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. This is followed by a barbeque with music and dancing poolside.
The Women's Committee hosts luncheons, dinners and holiday boutiques, plus the women decorate the Club as a showcase for the holidays. Members use the Club as "Their Home Away from Home" -- an extension of their living room. The Club is also available to members for special occasions, parties, weddings, birthdays, and anniversaries.
Activities continue throughout the winter with Frostbite sailing on Sunday afternoons and Trap Shooting on Saturday mornings. Paddle Tennis teams and intraclub play run from October through April. Participants of these winter activities can often be found in front of a roaring fire in the Grill Room for an hour or two of social time.
