MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE LETTER
April 12, 2006

Dear Fellow Club Member:

With Commissioning around the corner, it’s time to think about friends, neighbors or relatives who might want to join our Manhasset Bay Yacht Club family. Remember how you felt when you joined the Club? Share your pride and love of Manhasset Bay with others – help them become a member. Our Club thrives because of members like you -- and new members contribute to the ongoing vitality of our Club.

We have Membership Receptions scheduled every month, but if you know people who want to enjoy the summer at MBYC, now is the time to act! Bring your prospective members on:

Sunday, April 23, 2006
5 – 7 pm
Upper Lounge

Sunday, May 21, 2006
5 – 7 pm
Upper Lounge

Please RSVP to the Club Office on 516 767 2150.

If these dates are a challenge for your potential member, please call me or any member of our Membership Committee, and we will arrange an alternate time for you and your candidate to meet an Officer(s), Trustee(s) and members of the Committee, so we can get the process going.

Just to remind you of who’s on your Membership Committee – call on any of us to assist you:

John Barry -- Dan Brown - Wendy Cozzens - Beth Danilek - Tina Fairhurst - Joan Kent – John Kilborne – Chris Shields -- Bill Siener - Jonathan Siener & Vince Syracuse

Last year, we were pleased to report that thirty-three members were elected. We thank all our fellow members who brought these new members to our Club. We also have many folks in the “pipeline” who have expressed interest or attended a Membership Reception, but who have yet to file the requisite paperwork. We would like to “best” our accomplishment of last year, but we need everyone on the MBYC team to help us here and encourage those you know to come our way.

Meanwhile, let’s review the application process. The prospective member needs a sponsor and a seconder, as well as several letters in support, in addition to filling out a membership application – which form is available through the Club Office. The letters should address how well you know this person or family, and how you feel they would fit into our Club family. Tell us if they are boaters, love the waterfront, want to participate in children’s activities, swim team, tennis and so on.

The Committee, Trustees and Officers need to meet the potential member. The Membership Receptions are a good vehicle to accomplish this; however, as mentioned above, if schedule conflicts do not permit this, call a Committee Member and arrange to meet one of us for a drink in the Grill Room or lunch, so we can meet you and your proposed member, get to know them a bit, and answer any questions they might have.

Once all the paperwork is in hand, and we’ve had a chance to meet the prospective member, their name is circulated to the entire membership, following their application being put before the Board of Trustees. After circulation, the proposed member is then elected by the Trustees.

This process can take as little as a month to a month and a half, or longer – depending on how long it takes for you to work with the Committee to get the paperwork in and meet the Trustees, Officers and Committee members. We will certainly work with you to accomplish all this as simply and “painlessly” as possible.

You know the wonderful and diverse activities our club has to offer – from the waterfront with sailing, regattas, junior sailing, ladies’ sailing, to the pool, tennis and paddle tennis courts, children’s program, women’s dinners, lunches, and holiday decorating, lecture program and fine dining in the Grill and Bay Rooms, plus Lower Terrace in warm weather. In all, a fine club we all enjoy, and “Our Waterfront Home”.

Please stay tuned – and see you on April 23rd! Thank you all for your efforts in getting Manhasset Bay Yacht Club great new members!

Best Regards,
Pattie Gallatin
