Ideal 18

The 2018 Sailing Season is here!

What you joined a yacht club and don't know how to sail?  Worse yet, your kids know how to sail and you don"t. No problem, join the Ideal 18 program.

Become an Ideal 18 sailor. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced sailor, our family friendly program has something special for you. Ideal 18 sailing is an easy and inexpensive way to get you and your families on the water this summer. The Ideal 18 Program is a perfect way for new members to enjoy sailing on Manhasset Bay. But the best kept secret at MBYC is that most people who join the Ideal 18 program have been members of our club for several years, several even own other boats, and many program members are some of the best sailors in the club. They join the program because they have fun sailing, mentoring new members, cruising and racing on Manhasset Bay, Program members have priority on the use of the boats and for regattas such as MBYC Race Week and the New Year's Regatta.

As an added benefit, the boats are quick to rig, are maintained by the club, and are available to program members seven days a week from commissioning to decommissioning and on Sundays from November to April for frostbiting.

New MBYC Members and those “old salts” unfamiliar with the Ideal 18 are asked to make arrangements for an orientation sail with Tom Powers before signing out a boat.

Program members can reserve one of our eight boats and go out for a sail, and can also participate in the many exciting Ideal 18 activities which include:

PERSONALIZED SAILING INSTRUCTION  Sailing lessons with Ideal 18 Program Director Tom Powers by appointment to suit your schedule -- Just call the front desk or email Tom at kodman14@optonline.net

It’s a perfect opportunity for beginners to crew and then take the tiller for themselves. Better yet, it’s a perfect excuse for some apr├Ęs  sailing adult refreshment in the Grill Room!
